Royal Canin

About Partner

Royal Canin is a globally renowned pet food manufacturer. The company was founded in France in 1968 by veterinarian Jean Cathary. Today, Royal Canin is a global company, recognised as a brand of carefully formulated pet foods, offered as part of variety of diets developed by scientists for individual animal breeds and allowing for their age and health condition. Royal Canin is a manufacturer which closely cooperates with scientists, veterinarians and pet owners, putting animal welfare in the first place.

Challenge

In 2008 theRoyal Canin production plant in Niepołomice, Poland, decided to extend its storage area with an external operator’s warehouse. The reason was the dynamic increase in pet food production resulting from the growing market demand, which gave to investments in production development and entrustment of the handling process of the growing inventories to an external logistics operator.

Partnership with KMC-Services

In 2008 Royal Canin entrusted handling of a part of its inventory to KMC-Services. Initially, the service included only finished products. Over the years, KMC-Services came to be entrusted with resources and packaging. KMC-Services ensured full compliance of warehousing standards with Royal Canin restrictive requirements whereby the warehouse was fitted with disinfection sluices. A special element of the service is laboratory sampling and the warehouse itself is regularly audited by Royal Canin, a number of international suppliers and the State Veterinary Inspection. Both the warehouse and the service regularly pass the audits with distinction.

Results

Within the 9 years of our cooperation, it has increased not only in the number of serviced areas, but also in the servicing scale, which has grown 40 times during this period.

Royal Canin Distribution

About Partner

Royal Canin Distribution is a sister company of Royal Canin – a renowned global pet food manufacturer. The company’s mission is aimed at efficient distribution of goods manufactured at Royal Canin production plants through retail chains in Poland to end customers and their pets.

Challenge

In 2016 Royal Canin Distribution faced the challenge of reorganising and improving the distribution system of pet food, which so far had been based in 2 distribution centres. The aim was to consolidate shipment completions, achieve maximum process synergy as well as save money and time.

Partnership with KMC-Services.

In 2016 Royal Canin Distribution entrusted full management of pallet shipment completions to KMC-Services. The service point was located in a warehouse next to the Royal Canin manufacturing zone, which automatically helped optimise the time of goods transport between the processes and thus reduced the costs. KMC-Services solutions were focused on creating maximum process synergy of both companies. A dedicated project team was set up in order to ensure efficient and comprehensive support and ongoing optimisation. The basis for these solutions were process audits, including ones addressing complaints lodged by those using services of Royal Canin Distribution, with a view to facilitating easier and quicker handling.

Results

Our cooperation resulted in measurable time and cost savings. The solution used here had a significant impact on the natural environment – by eliminating the transport to the second logistics centre, we reduced the CO2 emissions by 200 tons resulting from the annual distance of 117.000 km.

Partner's opinion

KMC-Services was faced with several major challenges. In no time at all a team was put together and competence was developed with regard to order processing for Polish market clients. All the goals that had been set were achieved before the deadline. In collaboration with KMC-Services and as part of the project in question, great flexibility in the face of unforeseen circumstances and orientation towards a shared goal merit particular acknowledgment – Krzysztof Hardek, Logisitcs Director, Royal Canin Dystrybucja

KMC-Service was rated “A” on a 4-point scale, which is very good.

Partner's opinion

I must admit that it is not easy to satisfy us as far as logistics services are concerned. The scale and dynamics of our business place the bar really high and necessitate constant and invariably superior services. In order to monitor the efficiency of the logistics operator, we subject our cooperation to regular evaluation – only thus can we rest assured that the services remain on the desirable level. KMC-Services has really made the grade as the operator for us, which has come to be corroborated by the very good appraisal results of our audit. As we work with KMC-Services, we have constant access to a fully roadworthy fleet that can operate on routes in any European direction, a dedicated team, a highly client-friendly attitude and lightning response time to our needs –Wioletta SZMIGIEL, Transport Specialist and Bożena PILARSKA, Head of Purchasing Department.

Mieszko S.A

About Partner

MIESZKO is a well-known and reputable Polish brand that draws on the confectionery tradition of more than 100 years. It specialises in the production of chocolates and caramels. The most popular products include Cherrissimo, Amoretta, Magnifique and Chocoladorro boxes of chocolates, as well as the delicious Michaszki and the Zozole, which are loved by children.

The sweets are manufactured in Racibórz, where the MIESZKO company production plants are located, but the products are known outside Poland as well. They can be purchased in more than 60 countries, on all the continents

Challenge

In  2004  Mieszko decided to entrust the transport services to a new, external logistics operator. This resulted from the producer’s ambitious plans of international expansion, and from the unsatisfactory offer on the part of the previous suppliers of such services. The requirements to be met by the new operator included 100% timeliness, total safety of the transported goods, capacity to deliver to a number of countries, as well as great flexibility and facility for quick response to the client’s needs. These conditions had been set down in answer to the considerable changeability and dynamics of the FMCG industry.

Partnership with KMC-Services

In 2004 Mieszko entrusted the complex transport services to KMC-Services. Ever since the collaboration has been flourishing in the following scope:

  • deliveries to retail chains all over Europe, especially in England, Spain, Czech Republic and Romania;
  • FTL and LTL transport.

As part of the partnership, KMC-Services performs not only the role of a freight forwarder, but the one of an consultant as well. In this capacity we have devised, among others, a method for optimal packaging of non-standard freight.

Results

  • Timeliness: 98,9%
  • Complaint index: 0%
  • Multi-year collaboration and the client’s trust

Partner’s Opinion

“As we want to fulfil 100% of our clients’ requirements, which is our priority, we often need to change our loading plans. This undoubtedly impacts transport. Rescheduled loadings entail longer waiting times for the carrier. Besides, the kind of products consigned to shipment compels us to constantly monitor the temperature maintained during shipment. The specificity of deliveries to export clients is highly varied and frequently involves constant monitoring. That’s why we need a logistics partner who despite the challenging conditions will be able to provide us with services of the highest quality and to always reach the destination on time. KMC-Services has been this kind of partner for years” - Marta Sroka, Customer Service & Logistics Manager.

Mecalux

About Partner

Mecalux is the third largest manufacturer in the global storage systems market. The group has 11 production centres on 3 continents.
In 2000 the Polish Mecalux production centre was founded in Gliwice as one of the state-of-the-art facilities manufacturing conventional racking. The company has a total production area of 53.500 m² with the production capacity reaching almost 700 tons of finished products per day.

Challenge

Storage racking is an outsize load that poses handling difficulties, thereby requiring a special fleet and an experienced logistics operator. A long-lasting process of loading cargo onto transport units, combined with the customer’s high expectations concerning delivery timeliness make 100% prompt pick up a crucial prerequisite. At the same time, the high variability of places of delivery necessitates an operator’s considerable flexibility allowing for seamless adjustment to fluctuating requirements, and a great knowledge about the business and its specifics.

Partnership with KMC-Services

In 2004 Mecalux decided to entrust transport service to KMC-Services.
Having quickly considered the characteristics of the business and the full spectrum of Mecalux needs, KMC-Services devised a complex transport service including:

Tal-Serwis

About Partner

Tal-Serwis is a company that has been in operation for 24 years. It is a part of an import and trading group which owns such brands as Energy Cell, Energy Light and others. The company specialises in selling energy-saving and environment-friendly batteries and LED light bulbs.

The Challenge

In 2014 Tal-Serwis decided to entrust its warehousing service to an external logistics operator. This was caused by the dynamic company growth and its willingness to focus on its core business of import and wholesale of products.

Partnership with KMC-Services

KMC-Services and Tal-Serwis began their cooperation in mid-2014. At first, there were single orders on a small scale. However, after some time, the scope of the cooperation began to grow dynamically. Today, KMC-Services provides manual unloading of sea freight containers, sorting of goods as per type, palletting and warehousing. Stock-outs apply to unit packaging –
cartons. As part of the cooperation, KMC-Services developed solutions helpful in identifying causes of product damage, a major pain point for Tal-Serwis, and thus instrumental in avoiding costs of purchasing diminished-value products. Thanks to the well-developed and successfully implemented procedures the problem was solved and never occurred again.

Results

The good cooperation led to more cooperation resulting from the expansion of Tal-Serwis business and from the growing trust and willingness to entrust even greater servicing volume to KMC-Services. Cutting off the costs of damaged products thanks to the solutions provided by KMC-Services is an additional benefit for Tal-Serwis.

The company, which is headquartered in France, operates in 60 countries, where it develops and delivers systems, equipment and services for the transport sector. The Alstom offer includes a comprehensive array of solutions ranging from high-speed trains – e.g. Pendolino – to underground trains, trams and e-buses, services, signalling systems and infrastructure. Alstom Power delivers solutions concerned with electrical energy supply. As part of this activity it builds power plants providing electrical energy not only for the transport industry.

Challenge

In 2005 the management of the Elektrėnai Power Plant in Lithuania determined to modernise the plant with a view to its taking over the electrical energy production for the whole of Lithuania as of 2010. The plan for the power plant expansion and modernisation was entrusted to Alstom Power Sweden AB. As part of the plan, the development of the concept of the new power plant and new processes to be put in place was entrusted to external specialists.

Partnership with KMC-Services

KMC-Services was entrusted with the development of two consultative projects:

  1. The concept of the future warehousing facility along with its Lithuanian location, type and size.
  2. The warehouse organisation method with main focus on solutions for an effective system of collection and release of steel elements delivered to the power plant by external suppliers. The amount of steel that was, according to the plan, to be effectively handled was in excess of 5,000 tons.

The plans aimed to draw up guidelines for the construction of an optimal warehouse and to put in order the field that until then had been operating inefficiently, as well as to perform a detailed analysis of the situation, devise new processes, develop a system for total safety of material flow, reduction of warehouse deficiencies, and a system for evaluation of the efficiency of processes.

Results

As part of the projects, KMC-Services experts developed and delivered detailed solutions for the development, implementation and monitoring of the logistics strategy in the following fields:

  • location, type and size of the warehouse,
  • warehouse organisation, fittings such as storage shelves, specialist trucks, etc.,
  • registration of collections and releases,
  • order handlings,
  • document and information circulation,
  • recruitment of management staff for the warehouse,
  • IT systems necessary for the handling of processes.

Partner’s Opinion

“The KMC-Services consultants that participated in the project were very professional, engaged and had essential know-how. The solutions developed by them have been the major factor in achieving more efficient and cost effective system of pallet rotation. Based on our cooperation in this project and also in other projects, we can recommend KMC-Services as a professional and reliable partner in the field of logistics consultancy” – Per-Anders Brattemo, Project Manager, Alstom Power Sweden.

Silgan White Cap Poland

About Partner

Silgan White Cap is a global manufacturer of metal and plastic packaging delivered to many well-known, global brands in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and other industries. The company is headquartered in the US, and the production facilities are strategically situated all over the globe, among others, in Niepołomice near the city of Cracow, Poland, where a variety of packaging lids are manufactured.

Challenge

The management of the Silgan White Cap production plant was not happy about the degree to which their own on-premise warehousing facility was used and managed. It was expected that the facility might be used in a more effective way, thus affording extra space for the company’s manufacturing growth as well as other measurable benefits.

Partnership with KMC-Services

In 2016 the task of situation analysis and of drafting a proposal for solutions concerned with the reorganisation and streamlining of the warehousing facility was entrusted to KMC-Services. The aim of the consulting project was to devise a concept of the layout and rearrangement of the warehousing facility located on the production premises in a manner allowing the building area to be used in a more effective way and thus contain the greatest possible number of carriers holding goods. A request was made to select appropriate warehousing infrastructure and develop a concept of material flow in the warehouse, as well as to adapt the facility to store drums of varnish.

Results

As part of the implemented project, three concepts of the arrangement and use of the existing warehousing area were developed. Technical descriptions of the proposed variants together with drawings were prepared. In addition, each one of the concepts included a customised and specifically adapted design of the material flow in the warehouse, as well as appropriate infrastructure fittings for the warehouse and its surrounding area.

 Partner’s Opinion

It is with full responsibility that I recommend KMC-Services as a reliable and professional partner offering logistics consultancy. Ever since the establishment of our collaboration the agreement has been executed competently and thoroughly. The standards adopted by KMC-Services entirely fulfil our expectations. KMC-Services has effected a quick information flow, thanks to which we can monitor the implementation of the individual stages of the agreement. The services are provided by specialists experienced in both operational and commercial fields – these features are indispensable in fostering further business relations. KMC-Services fully implements undertaken projects and does it with unqualified commitment. The flexibility of the solutions proposed by the company and their economic efficiency are an unquestionable asset of KMC-Services – Stanisław Cyganek, Freight Forwarding Manager, Silgan White Cap.
